Diesel prices ease amid ongoing global uncertainty

The U.S. average diesel price per gallon of $3.615 in December was down significantly from $3.822 in November. Despite the month-over-month decrease, the average price was still higher than the $3.494 price per gallon in December 2024.

Monitoring the Venezuela situation

Following the arrest of Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro on January 3, 2026, there has been much speculation about Venezuela’s extensive reserves of crude oil. Due to the complexities of international energy markets, the limited production capacity in Venezuela, and uncertainty over the state of the Venezuelan government and extent of U.S. involvement, it is difficult to yet ascertain what impact this might have on oil production and associated prices.
